Massage treatments are one of our most popular mobile services here at Comforts Health and Beauty.
Headaches are a common problem that usually leads to some of our clients booking their massage treatment.
According to the World Health Organisation, headaches are one of the most common disorders of the nervous system, and almost half of the adult population have had a headache at least once in the last year.
If you reach for the paracetamol every time you get a sore head, you are not alone. But if your doctor has checked you over and there is no underlying reason for your headaches, it can be very difficult to understand.
If you regularly neck painkillers to stop the ache, you could make more problems for yourself by causing what experts call a rebound headache, which often happens due to painkiller overuse.
So, what else can you do?
Massage therapy is a relaxing but very effective way to ease your pain without you taking over the counter painkillers. It can improve your sleep quality and decrease your stress levels as well.
If your headaches are getting worse due to insomnia or being stressed, a body massage can be the perfect way to relieve your symptoms and deal with the true cause.
Can a massage treatment really help beat a headache?
It’s quite possible, yes.
Headaches can be caused or made worse by tension and muscle spasms. You know how you tend to hunch your shoulders when you feel the tell-tale signs of a headache – a massage can work on them. Releasing the tension and relaxing you so that you can let go of the headache.
Our massage therapists are skilled at using their hands to get right into where the problem is originating and work on pressure points that are also known to relieve headaches.
Massaging some areas of your body can have a powerful effect on your head – for example a few moments of targeted massage on the pressure points at back of your skull can be deeply relaxing and a perfect antidote for stress-related headaches.
Before you swallow another pill, remember that masking the pain with over the counter painkillers is just a temporary measure. Take preventative action instead – remedy will not stop your headaches – book yourself in for one of our treatments and give yourself the gift of long term pain relief!
